The Belleville Area Church Golf League was formed during the mid-1960's and is composed of ten teams from churches located in the Belleville, Fairview Heights and Swansea, Illinois area.

The league plays nine holes every Tuesday night for eighteen weeks at Clinton Hill Golf Course starting at 5:00 p.m. Both the front and back nine are used. Teams are paired in a double round robin format. Each team plays a specific opponent team twice during the season.

A church may have more than one team, and two or more churches may combine to form one team. Each team is allowed a maximum of eight players.

The competition format is one-on-one individual handicapped stroke play using USGA rules. The paired team captains select four players from their roster and agree which player plays against which opposing team player. Each match is worth two points for a win, one point for a tie, and no points for a loss. The team winning the most match points receives an additional two points. In all ties, points are divided evenly. When a player does not show for a match, this is considered an automatic loss.

A tournament is held near the end of the season and is composed of three flights for both gross and net scores. A course other that the one used for normal league play may be selected for the tournament.

Awards are given for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places in the following league play categories: team standings, individual low gross and net over par average, and individual low gross and net score. An award winner must play at least six of the league's scheduled matches.

A rotating trophy is used for team awards, and a gift certificate is given for all individual awards.
